- Call us first. Call +34 682 54 48 99. We ask what happened and give you the first available slot. Have a list of any medication you take to hand.
- Knocked-out tooth: act fast. If it's an adult tooth, pick it up by the crown, never the root. If it's dirty, rinse it for a few seconds in milk or saline, without scrubbing. If you can, push it back into place and bite on a clean cloth; if not, keep it in milk or saline and get to us within an hour. Baby teeth should not be put back.
- Broken tooth: keep the piece. Rinse your mouth with warm water, keep the fragment in milk or water and hold a cold pack to your face if it's swollen. Come in as soon as you can, especially if you can see a pink spot or it's very painful.
- Swelling: cold and assessment. Apply a cold pack on and off, and never use heat. Don't take antibiotics without a prescription. If the swelling spreads towards your eye or neck, or you have a fever, you need to be seen the same day.
- When to go to hospital. Go to a hospital A&E (for example, Hospital Clínic de Barcelona) or call 112 if you have difficulty breathing or swallowing, a serious blow to the face or head, any loss of consciousness, or heavy bleeding that won't stop.
If you have a high fever, swelling that makes it hard to breathe or swallow, or a hard blow to the face, call 112 or go to hospital A&E.
Frequently asked questions
Can you see dental emergencies the same day?
We keep emergency slots free every day. Call +34 682 54 48 99 and we'll give you the first available appointment, which is often the same day. If you can't call, book an emergency visit online.
What should I do if a tooth has been knocked out?
If it's an adult tooth, hold it by the crown, rinse it for a few seconds in milk or saline if dirty, and try to put it back. If you can't, keep it in milk and come straight in: ideally within an hour. If it's a baby tooth, don't put it back, but do call us.
My face is swollen from a tooth. Is it urgent?
Yes, you should see a dentist as soon as possible. If you also have a fever, the swelling reaches your eye or neck, or you find it hard to swallow or breathe, go to hospital A&E or call 112.
What should I do if it happens at night or on a public holiday?
If the pain is manageable, take a painkiller as directed on the leaflet and call us first thing. If there's significant swelling, fever, difficulty swallowing or breathing, or a serious facial injury, go to hospital A&E or call 112.
I'm visiting Barcelona. Can you see me?
