Braces and orthodontics in Les Corts

Braces are a fixed orthodontic treatment that corrects tooth position and bite using small brackets joined by a wire. At our clinic in Les Corts, Barcelona, we use them for children, teenagers and adults after a full assessment. Treatment usually takes between 12 and 24 months, depending on the case.

What it is

Brackets are bonded to the teeth and connected by a wire which, adjustment by adjustment, guides the teeth into position. They can be metal, the most common type, or tooth-coloured ceramic or sapphire brackets, which are less noticeable.

Braces are very effective for significant crowding, bite problems or movements that need a lot of control. In children, they can also make use of natural growth. We explain each stage and what to expect, without promising timelines that don't depend on us alone.

How it works

  1. Assess the bite

We examine your teeth and jaws and take photos, X-rays and records to plan treatment.

  2. Choose the bracket type

We explain the differences between metal and tooth-coloured braces so you can make an informed choice.

  3. Fit the braces

In a comfortable visit, with no anaesthetic needed, we bond the brackets and place the first wire.

  4. Adjust regularly

Every 4 to 8 weeks we review progress and change wires or elastics.

  5. Remove and retain

At the end we remove the braces and fit retainers to keep the result.

Frequently asked questions

What age can you get braces?

There isn't one right age. For children, an orthodontic check around age 7 helps spot problems early, although braces are usually fitted later. Adults can have braces at any age as long as their teeth and gums are healthy.

Do braces hurt?

Fitting them doesn't hurt. For the first few days and after each adjustment, some pressure and tenderness is normal and usually settles within a few days. Orthodontic wax helps if a bracket rubs.

How long do you have to wear braces?

It depends on complexity: many treatments take 12 to 24 months. Attending your reviews and looking after your braces also makes a difference. We give you an estimate after the assessment.

What's the difference between metal and ceramic braces?

They work in a similar way. Ceramic braces are tooth-coloured and less noticeable, but they can be slightly bulkier and usually cost more. We'll help you choose for your case.

Do I need a retainer afterwards?

Yes. Teeth tend to move throughout life, and retainers help hold the result. We explain how long to wear them and how.
